I have some wonderful neighbors where I live. One of them has crazy big barn sales! And, they put up a crazy amount of signs out here in the country pointing to the sale!
Last year we joined in the sale fun and had our own yard sale. I was not really feeling all in the sale spirit this year. I know that I need to go thru this house because we could seriously lighten our loud of “stuff” here! But, I just don’t have the time right now. I’m fighting hard to get work kept up and get ahead and all this other stuff.
My children, however were very excited to have a sale. They wanted to make some cash. I wanted them to rid their rooms of “stuff”. Ok, I told them if they went thru their stuff, they could have a garage sale. And it was their sale. I would put a few things out, but this sale would be on them!
They did pretty good! They went their own stuff and slowly bags and boxes started coming down stairs and piling up for the sale.!
I had scheduled to be here all day for their sale. But I had to make a last minute appointment this morning. I made it at 7:30, hoping to be home by 9. I wasn’t. So the kids’ sale started a little later in the day.
It looked like they were getting a little disheartened when the first three cars pulled in the driveway, saw mostly toys, and pulled back out of the driveway. I reminded the kids that we do that too. When we see a garage sale with just baby stuff, we keep going because we have no use for it. So maybe these cars just didn’t have kids!
We did have some cars stop. We had more cars that pulled in and pulled out of the driveway though. So I made my kiddos an offer. I was impressed with their efforts to go thru their things for this sale. And I was very impressed with getting rid of “stuff”! After the sale was over, I would be taking the unsold items to Goodwill. And I would give the kids each some $$ for their stuff that I took to Goodwill. Yes, I know sometimes in life a person can work hard and not end up with $$. But, in this case, with my kiddos, I felt it was more important for them to feel like their hard work paid off!
Tonight I am thankful for my kiddos working hard to have their own garage sale! And I am thankful that maybe their rooms will be a little bit easier for them to clean now!
