I was at my desk working. And I heard a thud.
The last few days, all my older hens have been crossing the road to eat the seeds that fell from the wheat.
I turned and looked out my window to see a hen rolling across the road, feathers flying. I ran out of the house. The car had pulled in the driveway. I was almost to the road and a car was coming the other way. Luckily, they saw me running and had stopped. My poor hen was lying in the road. Then she got up, shook herself off, and ran back in to the yard.
She was ALIVE! I have no idea how. I really don’t. She was hit so hard, I heard the thud from my office window. She is doing well right now. I guess time will tell if she suffered any internal injuries.
My chickens will not stay in their pen. I have clipped their wings and they still get out. I can’t blame them. They are animals, they weren’t meant to live in a pen. And up until now, they’ve been pretty cautious about the road.
When the hubster got home, I showed him my idea for more of a yard fence. I think they’d stay inside a fence if it was the yard . . . hopefully. Or else I need to install a chicken crossing signal like at a railroad track I guess?
Tonight I am thankful that my chicken is alive! That is two animals in two days that have escaped a certain death! Tomorrow I may sedate all the animals just to keep them safe!!! Ok, not really. But, they better behave!!!
It was this girl! This one here!
