Everyone seeks peace. But there are different varieties of peace. What is peaceful for me, is not peaceful for someone else. And that is one of the beauties of life; that we are all different.
I’ve written quite a bit over the last couple years about our road to Financial Peace (the name of Dave Ramsey’s book . . but also our destination!). Yesterday and today are proving why this was a good choice for our life. Honestly, there is enough logical reasons why this is a good choice. But real life experiences are good reinforcements to prove that some of the less favorable things of this walk have been totally worth it.
Yesterday I signed my son up for a program that will greatly benefit him. It isn’t cheap . . . . like even remotely cheap . . but it’s going to help him tremendously! There is a discount available if we can pay in full up front. I like discounts.
Today I had to sign to cover expenses for my daughter’s upcoming surgery. Payment is due the day of surgery. Insurance covered about half. I said, “Will you take a personal check?”
Do you know what an AWESOME feeling that is to be able to do this?? It’s a bit sobering back home because this is a lot of money in a very short amount of time. But we have sinking funds and an emergency fund for this very reason. I’ll have to readjust some other plans. But this is life. This is why a budget is NOT a solid thing (like I once thought). A budget is moveable, always needing to be adjusted to accommodate life. A budget is simply telling your money where to go. Money needs a plan of direction or else it seems to just fly away!
Tonight I am thankful that we aren’t whipping a credit card out this week or next! We aren’t charging our life on plastic in hopes we have money to pay for it later. We aren’t accruing interest to darken our future with burdensome debt. We have a long way to go on this journey still. But we are feeling a lot more prepared now than we were just a few short years ago! And this preparedness bring peace . . a peace we have been fighting and working for . . a peace we will continue to fight and work for . . . and a plan for peace we will pass on to our children so that they may live in peace!
