My kids all like to help contribute to my blog from time to time. Gracie had a suggestion for tonight.
We have a cat named Grandpa. Grandpa is a girl. When she was younger, she had some white hair that made her look more like a grandparent . . and we thought she was a boy. Grandpa had kittens a few days ago . . outside . . in the flowers . . . by the air conditioning condenser. That is not a smart place to have kittens.
Today there was rain. Of course, outside the kittens got wet. Grandpa moved the kittens. My daughter looked all over and was sure that Grandpa had moved her kittens inside the truck, on the engine where the smaller kittens liked to lay. I wasn’t so sure that Grandpa could move all the kittens in there. So yes, I brushed her off, and said we would look in a little bit.
In a little bit my daughter came inside almost panicking. There was hissing coming from inside the engine area of the truck. I went out and popped the hood. Sure enough, that goofy cat had moved her kittens to the top of the engine. Two kittens were still on top of the engine. One had fallen behind the engine where I could see it; and I grabbed it. I could not see the fourth. I could hear it though. It had fallen somewhere down inside between the engine and the metal body. I tried a few times to reach my hand down, but there was just no way. I pulled a mat over and went under the truck. Sure enough, I saw two little kitten feet dangling. That kitten had fallen quite aways.
I went back to the top and tried that way. There was just no chance with such little clearance. I went back under the truck and tried moving the little feet to the same opening area. Then I pulled and wiggled, pulled and wiggled, and pulled and wiggled. Finally the baby kitten came out! And it was still alive! And the truck was still able to start after I had pushed a little bit on some engine pieces when trying to get the kitten out.
We moved Grandpa and babies to a nice dry box with a towel in it, inside the barn!! Man I don’t know what these cats are thinking around here these days!
Tonight Gracie and I are thankful that all four kittens were successfully saved from the truck today!! There were a few moments when I doubted we could get that last kitten out alive. But they are alive and kicking in their new home of the barn! A littler of barn cats living in a barn . . . who could think of such a thing?? Obviously not Grandpa the cat!!!
