Treats

My dear, sweet Molly has always loved going for car rides.  She hasn’t been doing well for a while now.

She has arthritis.  She has a few other things.  She doesn’t move a lot these days.  I watch her.  I hope she’s not in too much pain.  I have some topical pain liquid relief stuff (made for horses) that she comes and asks for once or twice a day.

I know she misses her car rides.  When I leave the house, she perks her ears up, looking at me so hopefully.  But, the last time I took her for a ride, she had a hard time.  She wants to be sitting up, sniffing the air.  But she can’t hold herself up well enough when the car turns or stops.

Today I decided to take her for a ride.  She likes to ride shotgun.  I picked her up, and to her dismay, put her in the backseat.  Then I buckled her in.  She looked at me rather unsure.  But once we got going, it was clear that she felt comfortable with the security of the seatbelt.

Once we picked up the only kiddo coming home today after school, we went to the store and got her a jerky stick as a treat.  The car ride kiddo asked to unbuckle her.  He promised to hold on to her so she didn’t fall.  He also got her to lay down and was feeding her some of his chips after she ate her jerky!

Tonight I am thankful that my Molly is sleeping peacefully on the couch.  She had a big day with her car ride!  It wore her out!  I am thankful to keep my Molly another day.  I am counting each day as a blessing with her at this point.  So she gets spoiled a little more these days.
