Tonight was Christmas Card time!
I will admit that the thought of spending a couple of hours on cards doesn’t particularly excite me. But I do it every year anyway. Would you like to know why?
Well, I’m going to tell you any way =p I do it for the people who open the card and smile. I know not everyone that I send a card to will smile from it. But some will. So for those smiles or warm fuzzies, I continue to do cards.
A friend of mine made a post a week or so ago about the holiday season. She had a rough time growing up and she remembers not liking the Christmas season. Her mom spent money they didn’t have to impress people she didn’t care about. Her memories are of her mom pretending to be someone different for Christmas. The point of my friend’s post was to enjoy this season being yourself; and to not participate in a tradition just because you might think it is expected.
I agree with her. That is probably why I feel the need to write about the Christmas cards that I am sending out. If I send one to you and you don’t do Christmas cards . . don’t send me one back! Don’t feel any pressing need to return a card!!! And if I don’t send you a Christmas card and you would like one; let me know! I don’t keep records of cards. If I happen to have written down your address in my address book (that I lose at least once a year), then I send you a card. It’s as simple as that.
While I write my cards, I think about the recipient. I hope you are doing well. I sometimes say a little prayer for you. I smile at our memories while I write down your address. And I hope you are having a wonderful Christmas! That is why you get to try to decipher my chicken-scratches and why I still spend so much time on cards! I know there are faster ways to do cards now-a-days . . but for myself, if I went that route; then I would be doing cards just to do cards and mark it off my to-do list. I still do Christmas cards to hopefully remind people that I care about them. In all honesty, I suck at cards all year-long. I am horrible with birthday cards. I don’t think I’ve ever sent anyone but my parents an anniversary card . . . and I don’t remember to do that every year. I’m just not great at cards. So Christmas is extra important to me, that I do it myself.
Tonight I am thankful for the time tonight to write out Christmas cards! I finished my personal and business cards tonight! And again, if you would like a Christmas card from me and you don’t receive one; let me know!!! I do not withhold cards maliciously! I’m just not the most organized person when it comes to cards! For example, I have a pile of cards and like 5 stamps . . . I guess you know where I am going tomorrow!
