My daughter told me the other day that it just didn’t feel like Christmas. That’s a statement that got me to thinking.
Of course, here in a snowy state, a lack of snow affects the Christmas-ey feeling. Maybe that was it?
We’ve watched Christmas movies. We set up the nativity. We’ve been buying and wrapping presents. We did some baking. We went to see Christmas lights. We’ve had Christmas songs on the radio. What was missing?
Others. Giving to others. We have our Sparkle Box out (from the book, The Sparkle Box . . excellent story on giving for kids!) We’ve done a few generous things. We’ve done our one big family giving that we do every year. But this year, the kids just weren’t too much a part of the big giving.
Of course, I’m mom, so I want to fix things. I want the feeling of Christmas to be present! That feeling of Christmas is a feeling of giving. I hopped online today and found that most food pantries are closed tomorrow. Hmmm . . Bingo! I had an idea.
Tomorrow morning I am waking the kids up at 7:30am. We are going first for donuts (because, why not?!?) While we sit by the fire at the Dunkin Donuts, we are going to review a list of desired items for a local charity. Then each child will get a certain amount of money. We are going to a store where each child will select items to donate. They will get to decide which items and how many they can get with the cash. Then we will head to the charity to hand deliver the items from their wish list!
It sounds like the kids have a few extra things that they want to bring along to donate ❤
Tonight I am thankful for the chance to give. I am thankful for the chance to teach the kiddos to give. And I am thankful that we have a day tomorrow to do this!
