Experiment

I gave myself a break between Christmas (well, actually starting a few days before) until New Years to eat carbs.  I haven’t been going completely crazy or anything.  But, it has certainly been enjoyable . . . to a point.

Here’s what I have found:

1) French fries don’t taste as good anymore.    Honestly, this was shocking to me.  I love french fries.  But I have definitely become more picky with them since my several month hiatus.

2) I prefer my Soda Stream over regular pop.  This one surprised me.  I even let myself have a Mt Dew.  It is safe to say that my old love affair with the Dew is completely over.  The taste was not superior.  And it left me feeling very bleh with a bloated belly.

3) My low blood sugar had not been a concern for months.  And now it is dipping again.  Totally not surprising here.  I don’t consume near as much sugar when I am eating low carb and doing intermittent fasting.  I haven’t written much about intermittent fasting, but I will.  It is eating the way my body works.  For years I got up and ate breakfast because that’s what I read that I was supposed to do.  It has never been what my body has wanted.  My body is quite content being awake for hours and not eating until 10 or 11am.  Shockingly (not really) when I fed my body based it’s own clock, it works better.

4) I really did miss Hershey’s Chocolate Mint candy bars as much as I thought I did.  Yep, those still taste absolutely fantastic!  I could eat 10 a day and be a perfectly happy person!

5) I find myself looking forward to going back to the eating habits I had set for myself.  I am not looking forward to it enough to cut out New Year’s yummies.  But regular day to day, I have been eating low carb automatically.  And the times I don’t, I seem to feel more sluggish.

Tonight I am thankful that this has been a good test to reassure that I am doing the right thing!  I wasn’t looking for a “diet” this time.  I was looking for a healthier lifestyle.  And I have found it.  I will most likely always eat carbs at Christmas . . . I mean, this is the time of year that my Mom makes her English Muffin Bread and Pumpkin Roll!!  These things are worth it!  🙂  But, for the rest of the time, these healthier habits are here to stay!
