Here’s some thing I learned about a good idea – it can withstand opposition. I’ve had several ideas that people were thought were crazy. And most of them worked out well for me. Not all, but the majority.
I’ve known people who make big decisions and want to keep it a secret; so they don’t have to face criticism for something they want. I understand not wanting to have someone burst your balloon for a personal idea.
But, I suppose I’ve viewed criticism or just other points of views as calibration – for lack of a better word. If my crazy idea can answer the criticisms or have a back up plan for a “what if” conversation; then maybe my crazy idea isn’t so crazy. OR if my crazy idea can withstand negativity and my conviction is still just as strong; then maybe my crazy idea isn’t so crazy.
Questions are good and welcome. I won’t think of all the angles by myself. Question me. If I can’t answer, then I have some more thinking to do until I can answer! Of course negativity for the sake of being negative isn’t as constructive. Sometimes these attitudes can help me sink my heels in just to prove people wrong. But, I know that’s a bit more of my personal attitude. I remember when I said I was going to have babies without an epidural and a woman laughed at me. Like, seriously laughed out loud in my face. After that, the baby could have split my body in two and there was no way I would have asked for anything!
Tonight I am thankful for crazy ideas! If they seem crazy, but they live in your heart – don’t give them up!
