It is time to revisit the term I like to use, Incentive Parenting. Some may call it bribing. But, that just has a more negative connotation to it!
We all give ourselves incentives for things. I gave myself a Snickers bar just today for biking so well! So, this should obviously be used when parenting, right?
My home school kiddo is not a lover of school. He never has been and probably won’t be for the near future; maybe some day when there is something that he really wants to learn, but that day is not in the present. He has been on the edge of finishing his school work for well over a month. He was struggling BIG TIME with motivation. But, he wanted to go bowling.
Enter Incentive Parenting! When he finished his schoolwork, we could go bowling! Today was the day! Kiddo got to bring his buddy. And, I happen to win the first game!! I am actually a horrible bowler, but I can usually pull out one game over 100 🤣
Tonight I am thankful that my kiddo finished his schoolwork! I am thankful that I got to win one game against teenage boys! And I am most thankful that the boys had a great time and the Incentive Parenting was a win all the way around!
