Sometimes I drive by the road I grew up on and I hear Ralphie Parker’s voice in my head, from A Christmas Story. Of course he grew up on Cleveland Street and I grew up on Cooper Rd. But, I hear his voice nonetheless.
It looks a bit different now. It is still dirt, but you can’t tell from this picture. There’s a lot more houses. There were only six houses when we moved there when I was 5. The trees we planted have grown ridiculously tall. It looks like the swamp in the back may have dried up. But, a part of it will always feel like home.
Tonight I am thankful for a small moment of reminiscent home while I was driving to an appointment today. I wasn’t planning on reflecting as I drove by. But, I glanced down the road and my heart gave itself a little squeeze. 🥰
