Tenacity

In Dave Ramsey’s book Entreleadership, he likes the idea of what he believes of business success to be people standing on top of their pile of bad ideas rather than being buried under them. Ah yes, that is a thing.

In my appraisal business, I have had a lot of mistakes, bad ideas, and wrong turns. Over the years I’ve had tweaks and processes added in to the business to try and not repeat some of those things. For instance, driving 45 minutes one way to take a picture of a road because I forgot one of my required pictures was something that I, unfortunately, have done more than once. Now I review all the pictures at least twice before I leave.

In my real estate brokerage, I have invested in the wrong advertising, put emphasis on the wrong parts of training, and have both under and over communicated. Now I have some criteria that advertising has to meet, pay attention to the way training is received by my team, and ask more questions in communication to make sure information is being received well.

Now, with the new business, unfortunately, there are already learning curves and errors to learn from! Today I spent a good amount of time re-uploading and re-formatting my book “Parenting Teenagers” because of a decision I made a few days ago. I saw the warning messages, and clicked thru them anyway. I messed it up too much and had to do it all over again today. There were actually other things that I wanted to get done today! But, I guess they will wait until tomorrow!

Tonight I am thankful that tenacity, although it sounds like such a fancy, admirable quality, is really just being ridiculously stubborn! There will be bad decisions, mistakes, etc. But, I won’t get buried under mistakes and wrong decisions! Nope. Not gonna happen. But tonight, I’m tired. I’m going to sleep and I’ll be ready to go again tomorrow!
