Too Low

I sometimes get low blood sugar. Silly that I’ve gotten it most of my life, but didn’t know what it was. The earliest I can remember is maybe around 12 years old, going out to breakfast at Cracker Barrel. It was a later breakfast and I ate pancakes with lots of syrup. Shortly after, I felt really crappy. My sugar had spiked, then dropped. I just didn’t know it then.

Many years later I knew what it was and tried to eat accordingly. When I was pregnant, it got really screwy. I remember advice from the doctor that seemed logical about when and what to eat. It wasn’t until my daughters started having the same signs that I looked in to it more. Genetics, hormones, all of it can contribute.

Then I started trying different eating techniques and fasting. Fasting, in a healthy manner, actually works great for me.

But sometimes, on days like today, I wake up and want to eat Rice Chex. Bad decision #1 was eating before 9/10. 10 is ideal for me. But no, I ate around 7:45. Bad decision #2 was eating just Rice Chex with no protein.

So there I was showing a house when I started getting clammy, sweaty, and dizzy. I tried to be professional. But, I tried to wrap the conversation up and get to my car. I inhaled a P3, fruit snacks, and this little crunch bar. Then I drove to the closest place, which was McDonalds and got a large coke and a cheeseburger. I had definitely let my level get too low. It was at least 30 minutes before I stopped shaking. And then I really wanted a nap!

Tonight I am thankful for having snacks in my car! And thankful for knowing the best things to do for my body; now I just need to keep doing them!!
