There had been a recent event with a boy who behaved very poorly with my daughter. My kiddo, who is so very much more aware of behaviors than I was at her age, recognized an insincere apologize. She is a little prone to sarcasm (don’t know where she picked that up! 🤭) and responded “Shiver me timbers. I’m so scared. Please don’t manipulate me!” 😁 Momma is so proud!
This follows up with my girl kiddos’ saying of, “Oh wow, the bare minimum!”. They’ve used this one with people they know who have been interacting with themselves. And with people interacting with their friends. And I have long thought that is such a fantastic viewpoint! Not only is it great to have standards, but they stick so much to their standards that even meeting them is seen as the starting point, not the mid or end point. That is pretty admirable.
The past two paragraphs are a bit more specific to my girl kiddos. My boy kiddos aren’t as vocal about such things. But make no mistake, we talk about boundaries a lot in this house!!
Today a kiddo of mine did SOOO good with boundaries! I don’t think I would have been able to handle the situation as well as she did, even now at my pretend age of 29! She responded with dignity, a bit of humor, and shut down a toxic conversation with just a few lines!
Tonight I am thankful for my kiddos having and learning about having good boundaries – otherwise known as the b-word. I talk about boundaries quite a bit with them. And some of the kiddos may be tired of hearing the word. 🤣 I am thankful for them having standards. And I am thankful for them learning to use their words articulately and effectively! These kiddos are mastering these skills way younger than I was! I am excited for them to move thru life with these tools!
Oh yeah, and I’m thankful for phone filters that make me look far less tired than I actually am. My standards for picture sharing are sometimes higher than real life! 🤣🤣 I was initially going to write this blog in a little different direction where a picture was more relevant. But the blog took a different direction and I still have this picture. So here we are! 🤣
