Adrenaline

I like a little adrenaline rush. I get that from my job from time to time. Spending time in foreclosures, wild animals, people who shouldn’t be present, domesticated animals, semi-feral humans, dilapidated porches that my foot falls thru, etc. These are things that I am prepared for! Well, prepared for, or maybe at least open to the possibility of.

Anyway, today brought one I haven’t had in a long time. I was happy to see drop down stairs for an attic access! Those are always great! Then I don’t have to cart my ladder in and out. Except today’s house had the drop down stairs over the basement stairs.

This was not insurmountable though. I could do it! I pulled the string for the stairs to come down. They swung down, then they stopped. The stairs were still folded up. I stood and reached as far as I could. I could not reach the folded stairs to unfold them. *Hmph!

I looked around the house for something I could use. I finally found a stick. I wedged the stick in between the stairs and pulled them out to unfold them. Adrenaline booster #1, as I had to move quick with the stick and jump back to not get hit by the unfolding stairs falling down from the ceiling.

Adrenaline booster #2 was climbing up the rickety pull down stairs to the attic. These were original stairs, over 50 years old. They made creaking noises and wobbled. If they happen to break, I would not just fall the normal distance to the floor. Nope, I would fall to the basement stairs. *Deep breaths

Adrenaline booster #3 was climbing back down, and then trying to fold the stairs back up and push them back up to the ceiling; while balancing over the basement stairs. I had one arm holding on to the doorway and the other arm pushing the stairs up to the ceiling.

Whew! I made it! But, I can tell you that my heart didn’t calm back down for several more minutes!

Tonight I am thankful that I successfully got to look in, and photograph an attic today! It was touch and go there for a few minutes. But I made it! I did not fall down! And all is well! :)
