This is me at 19, when I bought my first house.  If you look to the right, at the fence; I learned how to do fencing right there with a friend from work. I don’t remember what I was working on  with this picture, but it may have actually been my truck.

I grew up in a house that was renovated from top to bottom.  I helped and learned.  I went with my Marky to help with his side jobs – learned I have very little interest in electrical.  I bought my first car at a great deal because the brakes were shot – ended up towing that in, as the project was bigger than what I could do.  But, I gave it a tune-up myself!  I learned lawn mower maintenance while working mowing lawns summers before, to save up for the car.

I scared the hubster at the last house when I went down to change the well pump myself.  It looked easy enough, there were only a few connections. I did ok.  He shouldn’t be surprised!  With the house in this picture, when we were dating, he told me to wait for him before deciding on the back room renovation.  Silly boy!  I don’t like being told what to do! (He has since learned that asking does better than telling.)  And, it was MY house!  I could do whatever I wanted!  He stopped by the next day to the walls stripped to the studs and a very smiling me!  I probably even stuck my tongue out at him.  Fortunately we’ve come a long way together!

It would be amazing if my talent surpassed my interest in doing things myself.  Really, I am adequate at best, but I’m ok with that.  I go in to enough houses to know I am not the worst out there!

Tonight I am thankful for growing up in a house where I was not only encouraged to do things, but expected to.  One day I will  use a jackhammer and learn to weld.  Those are on my list!  And maybe use some big equipment to do things. . . I found a park where adults can go drive around the big stuff and play with dirt!  Sounds like fun to me!!!
