State Records

I’ve had an idea in my head for awhile now. Ever since my brother did his first power lifting competition, I wondered if I could do it. There weren’t a lot of women who were there.

The next competition of his that I went to, I was thinking those thoughts again. Then I changed up my workout routines this year and have found more muscles.

So I’ve started researching more. Because if I do this . . I only plan on doing it once. AND I want to get a state record if I do it. Because I play to win.

I looked up my age group, and three weight classes that I could possibly be in – the class I’m in now, my goal weight for this upcoming year, and if I really went 110% all in what I could get to. I looked at the state records for deadlift, squat, and bench.

Then I had the hubster come out to my garage gym with me, because I have no idea what my maximum weights are and my form sucks. Seriously this whole bigger weight thing is new to me. We found where I’m at. I compared that to what the state records are. And chatted about what I could realistically do in a year.

I’ll admit, I thought I’d be closer to something with my legs, like deadlift or squat, because my legs and back are naturally strong. But, I’m closest in bench. I’m only off by 50 pounds. That is an attainable goal. I could do this!!!

I looked on the website and only one competition is showing for the year, in February. I will not be ready in February. And I’m sure there will be more that come on the schedule. I looked back in 2025 and a fairly close gym held a competition in October. So, as long as they do it again this October, I’m competing!

Tonight I am thankful for this crazy new goal! For now, I will start training towards this goal! This is good motivation to stay serious and focused!
**And extra thank you to the hubster!! My garage gym makes him sneeze! See the straw on the floor? Yay, some of my barn kitties live in here; which is why it is “my” garage gym and not “our” garage gym. I’m not being possessive, I can simply breathe out here and he can’t. He was a sneezing, watery-eyed trooper to help me out here today!
