It’s been weeks and weeks since my daughter first injured her leg.
The fist professional who looked at her told her to put ice on it. The second professional who looked at her told her to put ice on it and rest. The ice didn’t make sense to me because she never swelled up. Ice is good for swelling.
We waited a couple of weeks and nothing was better. Anyone who’s been down this road, knows it is a slow road to find answers. Starting new again, we had to go see our primary physician, who agreed something was wrong. Then we waited for the specialist. Then we waited for the MRI. Then we waited for the specialist again. Then the specialist had an emergency while we were in the waiting room and we had to reschedule. Then we had to go back to the specialist. During all this waiting, her knee was trying to heal. The MRI showed there had been some trauma, but there had also been some healing.
Today we went to physical therapy. I chose the physical therapist that I had been to when I tore my PCL. He was good. He was knowledgeable and had a sense of humor. All very good qualities. I trust him. I trusted him with my knee and he did great. So I was trusting him with my daughter.
This afternoon, after so many weeks, we finally had some answers. He could feel the scar tissue where her ligament had torn. She has been healing there. She is still having trouble because there is so much fluid stuck in her knee. Fluid slows down healing.
Can you imagine how relieved I am to finally have answers?!?! He has a plan to get the fluid out of there. A maximum of six visits – but he doesn’t think it will take even that long.
I have been worrying a little. I mean, she is taller than me now, but she is still my baby! And no one could tell us why she was still hurting so oddly. I was wondering if there was nerve damage or something. Things just didn’t quite match up completely to only a muscle injury. No, her nerves are fine! We just need to get the fluid to leave her knee so she can finish healing all by herself! I wanted to jump for joy right there in his office!
Tonight I am thankful for answers . . and good answers! I am thankful for a plan to get my daughter all back to good again!
Actually, I have a lot to be thankful for today. Last night I went to bed praying fiercely for my hurt babies. Tonight I am thankful that we have plans to try to make things better for them. I am thankful for a fun end of the year cheer party tonight; where I was unexpectedly showered with love by my coaches! I am thankful for all the girls that had fun in the program! I am thankful for a lunch today sharing ideas with my aunt-agent who is working on building something wonderful for herself with real estate. I am thankful for a hubby who has supported me and all the craziness that has come along with cheer this year. I am thankful for children that have supported me and all the craziness that has came along with cheer this year! Yes, tonight I am counting many, many blessings!
