The Things We Treasure

Do you know this game? Parcheesi, my Grandpa’s favorite.

This was his game. See where the game is a little beat up in the upper left? Grandpa was always green. Whoever he was playing would pick another color and take one of the other spots. But, the green always got used.

I’ve had to tape over the tape that was holding the box together. But, it’s still holding. A cat had knocked the box down, and I was on the floor with a flashlight to find all the pieces. Then carefully cleaned them all and put them back in the box. Now the box is in a more secure location.

This isn’t my favorite game to play. But, it is my favorite game to play, you know what I mean?

In a handful of days it will be his birthday ❤ Then four days after his birthday will be the anniversary of when he went to heaven. He is one that I hope God and Jesus bring to greet me someday. At a time in my childhood where things were uncertain and scary, he and my Grandma were always stable and full of love – even if his was a gruff Grandpa kind of love 🥰

One of my favorite moments with him was when I was grown up and came to visit him. He had a song he wanted to play for me. Harper Valley PTA 😁 My direct words and somewhat bolder lack of care of social cues weren’t his ways. But he loved me anyways, and he understood me, or at least he tried to. And that meant a lot 🥰

Tonight I am thankful for this silly game that I will keep forever. And I am most thankful for the man who made this game hold so much value. ❤
