I once had a testosterone based loved one stand next to me and say “Can’t you let me be the man?” It made me laugh. I’ve never tried to “be the man”. But, if you stand next to me and feel like less of a man, then you have a problem. I am not the one with the problem. I won’t be less of myself to make someone else feel more like they want to feel. That isn’t real. And it certainly isn’t fair.
I have spent a lifetime reading Proverbs 31. I have read Psalm 91 on repeat. I know what kind of a woman that I want to be. And that is strong, because I am not strong in myself. I know where my strength comes from. Are you kidding me? On my own, I’d always be crying against the wall with a broken heart.
So if a person feels like less of a man standing next to me, they mistake my strength for my own. There are many scriptures on how to be a Biblical man of character. And the answer is not by having anyone else be less of themselves.
If you haven’t had a good and Godly example in your life, it is all written down; become the example. Social media is crazy because if you start searching for certain things, your screen gets more and more filled with suggestions. Why are so many of these relationships and marriage? Why was I following Proverbs 31 as a teenager? Even when I had no intention of ever getting married? Because of a few reasons: 1) God said it 2) Relationships, healthy relationships, all have similar basic elements and 3) Marriage is the most open and vulnerable relationship a person can be in; if these things can be learned, it can translate in to other areas of character, relationships, and life.
Tonight I am thankful that there is always room for improvement. Whether you are happy with where you are at now, there is always room for improvement. Whether you are not happy with where you are at now, there is always room for improvement. God meets you where you are. And he hopes for you to grow and become more of what you he has planned for your life . . and it will be better than what you ever imagined! P.S. it takes work and faith and work and patience and work. Notice the work? 🙂
