It’s taken me around 20 years of listening to diet and health advice to learn that the best diet and health advice is to listen to my body.
There are great studies out there. There is great information out there. There are great testimonials out there. And there is great services out there to help people. And over the years, I’ve learned that most of it is not for me.
I do not need to eat six small meals a day. I do not need to eat first thing in the morning. I do not need to constrict my sleep to only certain hours of the day. And I do not work out well when I work out first thing in the morning.
My body likes to eat about twice a day. The more I eat in a day, the more that I want to keep eating; whether I am hungry or not. If I eat first thing in the morning, no matter what I eat, my blood sugar tends to get lower than days when I don’t eat first thing in the morning. Sometimes my body wants to sleep at 8pm. Sometimes my body wants to sleep at 11pm. If my body wants to sleep at 11, and I lay down at 8; I’ll lay there and get irritated that I’m not sleeping! And when I wake up and exercise in the wee hours of the morning, I am then tired for at least two to three hours.
Tonight I am thankful for learning that my body really just needs me to understand it and love it. I am on my way to a healthier me. And now that my home-gym is cleared out . . I am headed downstairs to do a little work-out tonight! 🙂
Lolly the cat is enjoying the gym already!
