The hubster and I made a joint decision last week that we would load up the kids and make a family trip . . to the laundrymat! We had actually talked about it a few weeks ago. We added this idea to the budget. Although at that time we hadn’t actually given up hope that our home-for-the-summer kiddos would find some sudsy inspiration to spend their days washing, drying, and folding.
Yesterday morning, Saturday morning, and a holiday no-less, the kiddos were woken before 6am! Everyone piled in to the vehicles and we spent the morning catching up on laundry. We all wore masks in the hot, stuffy laundrymat. Ugh.
Look at me here, airing our dirty laundry!!
I know there are people who are diligent about laundry. I am not one of those people. Then add in 3.9 teenagers (I actually calculated out how close the fourth kiddo is to being a teenager for this sentence!). Then multiply this by a lot of animals in the house, some of them old, some of them with internal issues. Finally, calculate in that we moved the laundry to the basement some time ago so that I don’t have to stare at it. Yep, the answer to this equation is not pretty. Out of sight, out of mind is a great saying . . until it all catches up with you!!
A couple kiddos asked why we would choose to do such a thing on the 4th of July! Really it just kind of worked out that way. But my more strategic-parenting answer was that we were going to be getting our Freedom from Laundry!
Tonight I am thankful that yesterday morning’s work has made today feel great! I still need to get up in the attic and put some blankets away (seriously I don’t know why or how we still had so many blankets in circulation!). And we need to go thru the sock basket. But then, we are doing so good! And so clean! Yay! Go Us!
