One of the things I have loved so far about this minivan is that there is not much kitty room. My previous car was built just perfect for kitties to crawl up inside and take a nap. This van has no un-necessary metal. Even the engine is smaller and not flat.
So I’ll admit, I haven’t been checking for barn kitties before I get in and drive away. Usually I let the van warm-up anyway. That gives time for any potential stow-aways to exit the vehicle!
Today though . . today I had been home, then had to leave again after about a half hour. On a whim, I did honk the horn, just in case. Then I pulled out and started down the road. I went probably 1/4 mile and glanced in my rear-view mirror. And then I saw the fluffy kitten jump from my moving van. She ran to a road sign and sat down.
I turned around and went to get her. She was ok, except for her eye. This particular kitten is already blind in one eye. I think she hit her bad eye on her desperate jump from the van. I raced back home and wrapped her in a towel.
She stopped bleeding after a while. She took a several hour nap. And she just came in my office purring. She gets to stay inside for a little while now. I feel horrible!
Tonight I am thankful that Eyeball – yes, that is her name – is ok! She is such a sweet, little kitten! And, I guess I’m thankful that if she had to injure an eye, at least it wasn’t her good eye!
