Family Love

Ah this house . . when I was a child and my life turned upside down with my parents divorcing, there was this house. Honestly, it could have been any house. It wasn’t the house that was special, it was the people that lived there. The woman who babysat my brother and I, while my mom rejoined the workforce. The woman’s husband whom I have fond memories of. And the three children that grew up in that house; who will always have a special place in my heart.

I remember one day I was sick and couldn’t go to school. My mom was at work, so I got to go to this house. The woman made me a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and cut my sandwich in to quarters. I thought that was the neatest thing! AND I got to eat on the couch while watching tv. Royal treatment! 🙂

She always had chocolate pop tarts on the shelf in the kitchen. I usually had already eaten breakfast when we were dropped off there in the morning to ride the bus to school. But I would always accept her invitation for a pop tart. I thought they were delicious! And we couldn’t afford to buy pop tarts at my house. She made her own hot chocolate mix in this big plastic container. She made a lot of stuff. She liked to bake and cook.

In the summer my brother and I went with the family to pick strawberries, to the library for the summer reading program, and visit the local people that they would visit. They had all sorts of family in the area, we didn’t. We went with the family one Halloween to go Trick or Treating and got so much candy! They knew all the people in the houses, so we got to go there! My family didn’t know a lot of people.

There was a fond time in the past that this house was full of happiness and love. And it will always hold a special place in my heart. We have been blessed to be owners of this house. And now it is time for this house to be a blessing to someone else.

Tonight I am thankful for all the happy memories in this house. I am thankful for the blessing of being able to own this house and help it get ready for it’s next owners. And I am super thankful for my family working hard this week and today to get this house ready to go on the market!

P.S. I have officially decreed that my family’s Christmas will not end at midnight on December 25th! So far this December has been filled with lots of extra time-stealing work-type stuff. And we need time to relax and have fun with Christmas! So we will!! I don’t care what the calendar says!!
