Once upon a time, in a basement here in my house, there was a horrible flood. All the people of the house were saddened and upset by the flood. The beautiful basement was quickly transformed in to a scary, disgusting place filled with mold of varying colors. It was a sad time in the household.
Lots of work was done to the basement. All the basement finishing was removed. The mold was remediated. The basement was waterproofed. The basement was still damp. And in two small areas, the water found its way in to the basement.
Three perimeters of the home were dug up and redone. Lots of work. Lots of time. Lots of materials. The basement was still damp. And in two small areas, the water found its way in to the basement.
Then one day, a plumbing drain error was found. That was corrected. And now, with all this water outside, I am happy to report that we are down to only one small area of wetness in the basement!! Only one!!! This one small place is pretty much unfixable unless we decide to do some major excavation on a very old well room in an old farm-house. I’m calling this a win! The air is not damp! We are as dry as we are going to get down there!! Woo Hoo!!
Tonight I am thankful for a 95% dry basement!! We have a drain in the well room. We have a dehumidifier running by the entry to the well room. And that is as good as we are going to get there! Yay for a mostly dry basement!! YAY! WOO HOO!!
Here is our only remaining area of wetness . . hidden away in an old farmhouse well room. And now . . looking at the picture, I have an idea to maybe fix this spot without major excavation!! I’ll have to make some calls this week! We could possibly have a completely dry basement! That would be magical!! 🙂
