Hope

**Please Note – tonight’s blog is not meant to brag, but rather to inspire!**

Our lives changed when we found Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace.  Before I read his book, The Total Money Makeover, we lived paycheck to paycheck.  We had lots of rough financial times.  We even had a bankruptcy in there.  Then we learned how to do better with our finances.

I love sharing whatever hope I can that money things can be better, no matter who you are!  I love sharing hope because I once was hopeless.  I remember when I emotionally broke, when it was all too much, when I called my good friend in tears because I didn’t know what to do next.  I’d always been a hard worker.  I’d worked 40+ hours for most of my life.  But it wasn’t enough.  We tried to rebuild our financial life by “trying harder”,  and it wasn’t enough.  When we learned how to change ourselves is when things really started to change.

Now we are several years in to this.  We haven’t had a car payment in quite some time.  Instead we have a car savings account.  Each month we put money in to that account for tires, maintenance, and vehicle replacement, so we can pay cash.

~Pretend I have a good segue here~  I drive 40 – 45,000 miles per year.  So vehicles don’t last me as long as they last other people.  Felicia, my van, has been getting a little rough.  We’ve been looking for her replacement for a couple weeks.  Last week we found a super great deal!  The car is in Ohio.  I called and we got the purchase in motion.   The plan was to have the car delivered.  This was all new to me!  I usually go drive the vehicle, negotiate, and drive the new vehicle home!  But, this was such a great deal, it was time to do something different!

This has been a learning experience!  One thing that I didn’t count on, was that vehicle shipping companies are either quoting me really high or just not interested in bringing my car here to Michigan!  Today brought a new idea!  I did some research and booked a one way flight to Ohio – for cheaper than we had budgeted to have the car brought here!  This all seems to surreal to me!  It wasn’t too long ago that I never would have dreamed we’d save up cash to do something like this!

Tonight I am thankful for the chance to fly out to Ohio soon to pick up my new-to-me car at thousands of dollars savings!  And I’ve already named the car.  Her name is Millie.  The car is white, so I was thinking maybe vanilla . . nilla . . nillie . . nilli . . Milli Vanilli . . . Millie 🙂  Millie lived in Texas for most of her life, then moved to Ohio.  She has barely been driven for the years that she has been in existence!  A like-new, older model year vehicle is perfect for my checkbook and my driving habits!!

** My biggest $$ savings tip on buying a used car from a dealership – buy an off brand.  I am buying a Ford from a Mazda dealer.  For my current vehicle Felicia, I bought a Dodge from a Hyundai dealer. **
